| UP Muslims will ignore his Fatwa: Soz | | Imam’s support for SP worries Congress | |

Jammu, Jan 30: Former Union Minister and President Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Professor Saif-ud_Din Soz has taken strong exception to Shahi Imam’s support to Samajwadi Party.
In a statement issued at New Delhi today Soz said: “The statement (Fatwa) issued by Imam of Jamia Masjid Delhi is, to say the least, reduced his own position as a religious leader. The Imam would know that the Fatwa that supports Samajwadi Party will be totally counterproductive for the Imam and also for the party that the Imam wanted to support.”
Soz said the Imam had indulged in sectarian politics and this kind of deplorable behavior will cause damage to the position he is holding as a religious leader. “It is a fact that Imam has gone visibly wrong on the latest position obtaining in Uttar Pradesh where despite various political impediments created by the vested interests, the Muslim Community appreciates whole heartedly the role of Rahul Gandhi in identifying the problems faced by the Muslim community. They (Muslims) feel confident that Rahul Gandhi will rise to the occasion and do justice to all sections of society including Muslims and the down trodden”, he said.
Reminding the Imam of Congress role in defeating vested interests who had tried their utmost to malign the Muslim Community and tried to hold them responsible in different cases of terrorism, Soz said Congress constituted the Sacher committee. “The report produced by this committee is now an authentic document with Muslims as a proof of their backwardness and now the Government is implementing its recommendations vigorously”, he said.
Soz said the Imam must bear in mind that Congress party alone can ensure reservation for Muslims in jobs and admission to institutions of higher learning. “It seems that the Imam also does not want to know that it is Congress Party alone that has decided to ensure safety of Wakf Properties of the Muslims Community throughout the country”, he said.
Soz hoped the UP Muslims would ignore Imam’s Fatwa and support the Congress.
“His Fatwa will be that he will have caused great harm to the religious position he holds. The Imam will also know that the times have changed and politically motivated Fatwas won’t achieve their purpose any more”, he said.
