International peace learning centre coming up at KU Campus

To promote peace and international understanding among people particularly the youth, an international peace learning centre will become operational shortly in the Campus of Kashmir University, Naseem Bagh. Being the first of its kind in the country, the centre would provide an opportunity to the youth of valley to have an interaction with people of other parts of the country and world. The centre would help in promoting bonds of mutual goodwill besides enriching the rich cultural heritage.
This was given out at hour-long deliberations held between International President, Youth Hostel Association, Dr. Harish Saxena and Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University Professor Wahid Ahmad Qureshi here today. President Youth Hostels Association of India for Jammu and Kashmir and Chairman Public Service Commission Mr. Mohammad Shafi Pandith, Chairman, Youth Hostels Association of India for Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. S.P. Verma Chariman Youth Hostel Association of India for hostel development in J&K Mr. Showket Ashayee and Mr. Khursheed Ahmad Tarzan, Chairman VHAI, Srinagar unit were also present.
It was informed in the meeting that youth of different walks of life can be benefited by this centre by way of having interaction with people from different countries.
The Vice Chancellor Kashmir University gave his consent for providing a big barrack situated in the Campus of University, which could be utilized for the purpose. However Dr. Saxena said that the funds for raising the infrastructure would be borne by the Association. He said this centre would be equipped with hi-tech soft and hardware.
The meeting also discussed modalities like shape and design of the centre.
Mr. Pandith briefed the meeting about the concept of the centre how the centre would help in promoting mutual understanding in the Kashmir valley.
Later, the team visited the proposed site for the peace centre at Naseem Bagh.
