‘Leprosy Day’ observed | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 30 : Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir today called upon the affluent class to come forward and help generously to the underprivileged section of the society. The Minister was speaking at a programme organized by Sahaeen Sports Syndicate to mark Leprosy Day organized, here at Baghwati Nagar this afternoon. President J&K Bank, O.P Sharma, President Leprosy organisation, Abdul Kariem, Chairman Sahaeen Sports Syndicate Showkat Ahmad Khanyari were present on the occasion. The Minister said that the leprosy hit people are also the part of the society and they need compassion and sympathy to help them lead a harmonious life. He strongly pleaded against attaching any stigma to the decease and the people suffering from it. Asserting that every religion teaches to show sympathy with the ailing humanity, he said the medical researchers have already negated the stigma which was attached to many diseases in older days. He called upon the people, particularly youth to be generous to the people suffering from diseases like this by giving away a fixed amount of their earnings in charity to the organisations which are working for the noble cause. On the occasion, Minister distributed blankets, Pressure Cookers, 10 Kg of Atta among the leprosy families in the Ashram on behalf of Sahaeen Syndicate and a Jammu based NGO. President J&K Bank also announced that bank will provide Rs 50 thousand for the help of leprosy people residing in Baghwati Nagar Ashram. |
