Developments within Cong leave workers disappointed | Leadership in dilemma, adopts 'wait and watch' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 30: Even as the war of words going on between two senior leaders did not see further stretching today , the stand off between the duo is far from being setlled. Nor has the dust compleletly settled over the core issue of corruption. With some leaders having chosen to keep distance by 'detracting' their names from the long list of signatories supporting Vakil, the entire sequence of developments have left a very negative impact on the morale of the workers and middle rung cadres of the party. Sources said the leadership of the party, apparently worried and wary of the manner fresh trouble has erupted for the party in the already faction ridden unit of the state, has deliberately chosen to adopt 'wait and watch' strategy in the fight between the two leaders followed by 'support' tug of war . The way leaders and senior functionaries have 'grouped' themsleves with either side, has created a situation of dilemma for the leadership which doesn't want to give any impression that it is shielding or siding with either group, sources said. Interestingly, many of those who have disowned and distracted from having signed the statement in support of Abdul Ghani Vakil seeking action against PHE Minister Taj Mohi-u-Din, were present ine meeting and had signed the statement actually, sources said adding that it is only after the names appeared in the media that they have taken a u turn. "One or two former ministers had actually prepare the draft and stragenly they have taken a u turn", said a senior Congress leader. This development has further made the matters murkier, he said. The leadership is well aware of all these things and is now as a matter of gaining some time keeping low in terms of making direct comments, he added. However, what is a worrying factor for the leadership is that all these developments have further disappointed the workers who were already in a state of disillusionment and disappointment over a host of issues including the issue of rotational Chief Minister, over which their hopes have been dashed by the high command. Sources said the workers are already not happy with the way most of the ministers are conducting themesleves eitehr in terms of their functioning or their conduct with the party workers and cadres .The allegations and complaints of rampant corruption has dampened the morale of the workers and the recent developments have further widened the already widening gap between the top leadership, ministers and the workers. The dilemma for the leadership in the backdrop of all this is that they don't have alternatives to substitute as appropriate choices at any level where there is dire need. |
