SP opposes giving constitutional powers to MLAs, MLCs | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 30 : Samajwadi Party (SP) has taken exception to the decision of state government for constituting a committee comprising of eight members of state legislatures to draft a bill giving constitutional powers to the legislators. In a handout issued here today, it has been stated that an emergent meeting of state executive members of Samajwadi Party was held at party head quarter Jammu, under the chairmanship of its president- Sheikh Abdul Rehman (Ex. M.P), to discuss the present political scenario in the state particularly decision of the government for constituting a committee comprising of eight members of state legislatures to draft a bill giving constitutional powers to the MLAs/MLCs. It has been added that state executive expressed great shock and surprise over the decision of the government for framing a committee of legislators, headed by former minister Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, to draft a bill giving constitutional authority to the powers of state legislators. The meeting observed and expressed wonders as to how government contemplated such an idea, which is prevalent nowhere in the country. The meeting further noted with deep concern that the most important issues pertaining to the public interest, are pending before the state govt. like extension of provisions of 73rd and 74th amendments of constitution of India to the J&K state. In a second resolution passed here, the meeting strongly criticized the decision of the government for hiking the amount of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from Rs. 50 lakh per annum to Rs. 1 crore and then to Rs. 1.50 crores.
