Mandeep's hat-trick guides Kathua Club to semis
25th General Zorawar Singh Hockey Championship

JAMMU, Jan 30: Mandeep Singh scored a brilliant hat-trick as Kathua Hockey Club blanked Zorawar Club, Jammu by five goals to nil (5-0) in the quarterfinal clash to enter into the semifinals of the ongoing 25th General Zorawar Singh Hockey Championship, being organised by Hockey J&K at KK Hakhu Astroturf Stadium, here today.
Earlier, Kathua Club players dominated the game from the word go as Sunny Singh displayed superb skill and sublime touch to convert a penalty corner into a splendid goal in 10th minute of the match. Kathua Club continued the dominance and increased its lead through a field goal netted by SP Singh in 18th minute of the match. Then it was magician Mandeep Singh all the way, who scored back to back goals in 25th, 40th and 48th minute of the match to give his team an unbeatable lead. Though the players of Zorawar Club made some good moves in both the halves, yet they failed to convert them into goals and their rivals finally won the match by a convincing margin of five goals. Kathua Hockey Club got six penalty corners, out of which they managed to convert one into a goal, while Zorawar Club failed to convert any goal out of the four penalty corners.
In another match of the day, Singh Club Bandhu Rakh blanked Mahant Bachitter Singh Club again by five goals to nil (5-0) to reach the quarterfinals and meet Young Star Blues tomorrow. Mukesh scored the first goal in 4th minute of the match, while Gurjeet netted two goals in 8th and 29th minute of the match and the remaining two goals were scored by Jagmeet in 15th and Gurpreet in 40th minute of the game. The match remained a one-sided affair and Singh Club scripted an easy victory.
The matches were officiated by Surinder Pal Singh, Iqbal Singh and Mohd Amin, while the tournament is being held under the supervision of Rumal Singh, member Hockey India and Sardar Narinder Singh. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Inderpal Singh, Manjeet Singh Gurdeep Singh and Daljeet Singh. Khalsa Club shall lock horns with Young Star Simbal Camp in the first match tomorrow, while Singh Club Bandhu Rakh shall take on Young Star Blue in the second match.
