J&K has potential to match most developed states of the country: Omar | Flags off state contingents for 'Youth Exchange Programme' | | Rajesh Dhar
JAMMU, Jan 31: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today said that the state of Jammu and Kashmir possessed rich cultural heritage and has the potential of matching the developed states of the country in its own way. He said if other states possessed huge buildings to fascinate people, J&K has the worth seeing mountains to attract millions, adding that the state's beautiful rivers have the charm and attraction of beating the seas and oceans of the other places. The Chief Minister said this during an impressive and well attended flag off ceremony to dispatch a contingent of 168 participants, both boys and girls drawn from various districts of the state for 'Youth Exchange programme', an exposure tour namely 'Wattan Ko Jano' at MA Stadium, here today. "Such programmes provide a great opportunity for the youth belonging to poor and weaker sections to have cultural exchange with their counterparts in other states, besides a step forward in bringing peace and harmony in the state," said Omar, the chief guest on the occasion. Quoting the lines 'grass is always green on the other side', the Chief Minister said that the participating boys and girls will surely enjoy the street sense of the other states, despite the fact that J&K possessed lots of worth seeing sites. Finally CM blessed the participants for a sweet, smooth and successful tour. He asked the students to act as ambassadors of Jammu and Kashmir and present the State's specialities to their counterparts during the visit to various parts of the country. "The tour has provided you an opportunity to study the cultural diversity, development aspects, life styles, educational excellence and other features of socio-economic progress in various parts of India", he told the students to also give details about the rich heritage, culture, amity, development, environment, hospitality of the people and natural beauty of the State to the people and students to whom they are going to meet and interact during the visit. The Chief Minister told them that the tour will also enable them to expand their knowledge about so many aspects prevailing in other States and also learn more on historical and educational fronts. He asked them to take best advantage of the opportunity and utilize it for enriching their knowledge and experience. The Chief Minister also interacted with the students and Members and Staff of the two elite sports agencies. He was accompanied by RS Chib, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Medical Education and Technical Education and Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Minister of state for Social Welfare, Rural Development and Haj & Auqaf besides other dignitaries. The function began with the presentation of bouquets, wherein the Chief Guest was presented bouquet by Aijaz Ahmed Khan, while Sports Minister was presented the same by Jai Pal Singh, Director Youth Services and Sports and the Minister of Social Welfare was presented bouquet by Kiran Wattal, Secretary J&K State Sports Council. Earlier, Bashir Ahmed Wani the Executive Director, J&K State Rehabilitation Council, the organisers of this programme presented the welcome address in which he gave brief detail of the contingents. He said that the total contingent of 168 participants have been divided into eight groups with Group A of 22 participants visiting Ahmedabad, Group B of 21 participants visiting Jaipur, Group C of 22 Participants visiting Chennai, Group D of 23 participants to Mumbai, Group E and F of 17 and 23 participants respectively, touring Kolkatta, Group G of 22 participants touring Hyderabad and last but not the least Group H comprising of 18 participants, visiting Bangalore.Prominent among others present on the occasion were DIG Farooq Khan, SSP Prabhat Singh, SS Bali, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu and Rajan Sharma, Sports Officer, J&K State Sports Council. The programme was compared by Rajesh Dhar and BK Tickoo, the officials of the Department of Youth Services and Sports. |
