BJP core group meets to discuss Municipal elections | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 31 : BJP state President Shamsher Singh Manhas convened a meeting of the party's core group on Tuesday at Jammu to discuss the strategy for the upcoming municipal elections proposed by the government. The meeting was attended by national executive member & former state president Nirmal Singh, national executive member & state chief spokesperson Jitendra Singh, national executive member & MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma, state vice-president Chander Parkash Ganga and state general Secretaries Sat Sharma (C.A) and Usha Choudhary. Also present was Vibodh Gupta as special invitee in view of his being election incharge for Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts. Briefing about the meeting, Shamsher Singh Manhas said that the party has decided to launch an aggressive movement to make the people aware of government's lack of will to empower the local bodies and added that ward level programmes are planned to highlight this. He further disclosed that the meeting also discussed the composition of core groups for each ward and constituting of the booth committees. Manhas said that the party will take up the issue of implementation of 73rd and 74thamendments during the assembly session as well as outside in the field. He said that the party legislators have been advised to raise this issue aggressively in the ensuing session of legislative assembly beginning on 23rd February. He said intentional delay in conduct of local urban body elections speaks of the non-seriousness on part of the NC-Congress coalition government towards strengthening the democracy at different levels. He also asked the government to give an account regarding funds form centre received in the name of recently elected panchayat in the state. |
