Non-availability of funds make Jammu Police travel on Dhakka Start'flying' vehicles…….! | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 31: Contrary to the claims of top police brass of delivering efficient policing to the general public, most of the Flying Squad vehicles (Yellow coloured Tata Sumos), purchased just two years back, are non-functional! "Non-functional means that the said flying squad vehicles cannot make a flying start and they require the services of the passersby to get it start with pushes from the rear side," quipped sources in police department. And the reasons for the same are that the senior police officers here are least concerned to fetch/order purchase of new bag of batteries to get it install in the vehicles for better response to the complaints/incidents happening in and around the city. "At least 25 new Tata Sumos were purchased about two years ago, for the purpose of Flying Squad vehicles. The reason to purchase said model of vehicles was that they were Diesel engine and it used to be much cheaper than old Maruti Gypsy vehicles that were run on Petrol. However, because of the non-availability of proper technical/mechanical check of the vehicles, the batteries of the vehicles have gone quite low and cannot make the engine start at once," sources in police shared further adding that "whenever there is an emergent call either there is some road accident case or some clash or some information pertaining to the presence of anti-social elements at any part of the city, the Flying Squad vehicles containing four to five Cops, prove failure." Sources revealed that in the recent past many a times, messages have been passed that about road accidents but the flying squad vehicles could not reach in time. Further, they also could not manage to chase and apprehend the guilty drivers who managed hit and run. "See, what we can do, if there is no one at the top to listen to our request. We have time and again informed our immediate bosses (Station House Officers SHOs) that the batteries of the vehicles are almost non-functional and it also requires other repair works but every time we are informed-non availability of funds. And ultimately, if we miss to reach on the spot on time, it's we, who have to bear the brunt from the senior police officers," pointed out few drivers of the said Flying Squad vehicles while speaking to Shadow on the condition of anonymity. "Many a times we have to request the passersby to please push the vehicle to facilitate its start and while doing so, people make fun of us commenting 'Jammu Police-Dhakka Start', thereby humiliating us," they grumbled.
