Omar forcibly promoting Urdu but at cost of 'Dogri and Bodhi' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 31: Recently Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's attempt to appease Kashmir centric elements within and outside the political set up of the state ordered all bureaucrats and government functionaries to put names in the official language of Urdu at their respective doors in Civil Secretariat leaving a notion of forcible attempt to promote Urdu. The said instruction from the head has left many heads to wonder if this was a proper manner to show respect to language or not. Many veteran politicians felt that to encourage one particular language be it Urdu or English no person is entitled to discourage or show other languages little. "And by ordering to display names in Urdu the chief minister has not only hurt the sentiments of the Dogri and Bodhi speakers of Jammu and Ladakh regions, some added. The new dictates of Omar who is seen as 'hyper' politicians going to extremes be it saying 'Do Inch Jagha nahi Denge' that sparked Amarnath land Row in 2008, criticizing BJP leadership from where he learnt ABC of politics and even identifying the rap victims and all this has back-lashed respective times. And this new order favouring Urdu and showing his extreme love to Urdu under political compulsions (though it is known a known fact that all ministers and bureaucrats be it from Kashmir and Jammu prefer their wards to go to English medium schools) has created shock waves within literary circles but has also become a talk of the town. According to sources said that many of the cabinet ministers too have taken this as a 'harsh blow' to show love for Urdu by Chief Minister under a well considered preparation. Meanwhile Shiv Sena Hindustan today staged a protest against the alleged continuous discrimination with Jammu region. Protestors led by SSH State President Rajesh Kesari alleged that Omar-led coalition government is continuously discriminating with Jammu region and the latest instance of this discrimination was state tableau in Republic Day celebrations. "The tableau was only Kashmir related and Jammu and Ladakh regions were missed from the tableau. On one hand government is boasting to develop three regions on equality basis, but still the discrimination is continued with Jammu and Ladakh region, Kesari said. Further Kesari and others also warned the MLA of Jammu region who failed to raise their voice against decade old discrimination. |
