Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 31 : With Chief Minister Omar Abdullah ordering police probe in to alleged involvement of education minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed in helping his foster son to pass matriculation exams by unfair means in 2009 and hue and cry over alleged corruption of PHE and irrigation minister Taj Mohi-ud-din by his congress colleague , the axe is likelyto fall on both the congress ministers.
While Peerzada is likely to face the fate of G M Saroori, former Rand B minister when he was dismissed from Omar ministry after his daughter was charged of resorting to impersonation in medical entrance exams at a ASCOMS medical college .The CBI probe was ordered and Saroori was dropped . PHE and irrigation minister Taj Mohi-ud-din, who was blamed of large scale corruption by his congress colleague and former state minister Abdul Gani Vakil , is also to face the scrutiny of his deeds by the congress high command in coming weeks.
Interestingly, Peerzada as well as Taj were ministers during previous Ghulam Azad Nabi government in 2007and also during Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's tenure. Both were in news for corruption charges then also.
Mohan Prakesh , AICC general secretary incharge J-K said: that the congress high command will peruse both the issues and then decide . Both Sayeed as well Taj denied the charges . while Sayeed said the case stand closed in 2009 after departmental inquiry ,Taj said Vakil wanted some favours which he declined to do .
A local newspaper disclosed that Peerzada's wife's son Imam Soban Bhat had resorted to unfair means to attempt the state board exams of class 10th in 2009 in connivance with some board officials including the chairman of school board Dr Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, who was then secretary of the board. Interestingly Sheikh was re-employed and appointed as chairman of the board by the minister last year after the approval of the chief minister Omar Abdullah.
Imam Soban Bhat is originally son of slain JKLF militant Parvez Ahmad Bhat and minister Peerzada married the widow of the former militant and adopted her son as well.
The newspaper reported that vigilance squad headed by academic officer and other three members inspected Centre No. 228 (Al Ameen School) and found the examinee bearing Roll No. 228211foster son of minister Peerzada copying with some incriminating material.
The answer script along with the handwritten chits which were found on the spot were handed over to the academic officer for registering case under unfair means. The concerned lady academic officer after receiving a phone call from
the then secretary BOSE, let off the candidate without registering any case under UFM.
The disclosure which created uproar in the state forced Chief minister Omar Abdullah to return to winter capital Jammu from Kolkatta. On his return from Kolkatta Omar summoned the education minister Peerzada and asked his explanation on the issue.
"My son was exonerated from the charges and case stand closed in 2009 .let police also probe .," Peerzada Sayeed said Peerzada said the general administration department under chief minister Omar Abdullah also wrote to the governor N N Vohra in 2009 giving clean chit to my son when governor's office asked for the report about the case.
However, the crime branch was told to complete their inquiry within seven working days. Any further action will be determined by the findings of the Crime Branch, an official spokesman said in statement here.
Meanwhile, hundreds of students and members of civil society led by independent MLA from Langate, engineer Abdul Rashid on Tuesday demonstrated at press colony in srinagar against the conduct of the education minister and demanded resignation of the minister Peerzada in view of the disclosures The state congress leader and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil said that he wanted probe in to the charges leveled by media against PHE and irrigation minister Taj Mohi-ud-din and instead he threatened me of defamation suit.
