POK based civil societies demand abolition of Pak's ministry of Kashmir council | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 1: The POK based civil society called as Democracy and Empowerment headed by Shams Rehman has demanded the abolition of pakistan's ministry of Kashmir council and wanted reformation of the constitutional status of that part of Jammu and Kashmir which, according to him will authorize the local government to collect taxes besides giving powers of choosing their own civil officers for the vital posts. According to the statement issued from POK, Shams Rehman, the head of the civil society, last week in a conference held at Islamabad organized by another civil society named as 'Kashmir Peace, Development and Reforms Centre' (KPDRC) demanded more powers to the local "Azad Kashmir government" . The statement issued from Muzaffarabad today said: "It is an established fact that Kashmir Council which enjoys authority over some of the key issues related to Kashmir including tax collection and has a huge budget making it a parallel government." In addition to it ,Ministry of Kashmir Affairs (MKA) always behave like 'East India Company' in AJK and because of its authority over the AJK government it constantly milks money of the AJK politicians after they stand for elections .The Chief Secretary of the state need to be pakistani besides finance secretary , health secretary and auditor general of Azad Kashmir must be from Pakistan, the statement said. No Kashmiri 'State Subject' is entitled for these posts, the statement added. The society also demanded abolition of Interim Constitution of 1974 which curtails the powers of AJK. It renders it unrepresentative, the statement said. "This constitution was adopted by the AJK assembly in 1970s under the orders of former prime minister of Pakistan Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and according to Raja farooq Haide, Bhutto sent his military secretary to have it approved. Therefore, the claim by some AJK leaders that this was approved by the assembly should no longer be valid to defend this unrepresentative and illegal document," the statement said. "No person or political party in Azad Jammu & Kashmir shall be permitted to propagate against, or take part in activities prejudicial or detrimental to, the ideology of the state's accession to Pakistan (Section 7.2)," the statement said. |
