Construction of schools under SSA goes on at snail's pace
'DDC Sgr dismayed at CEO's dismal performance'

Srinagar, Feb 1 : The construction of schools under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Srinagar district is going on at a snail's pace.
Official sources told KNS that 327 schools were taken up for construction under SSA from 2002-2003, but till date construction has not been completed.
According to the record note of the review meeting held on December 28, under the chairmanship of the district development commissioner, Srinagar, Baseer Ahmad Khan, with the officers of education department, "The DDC expressed his serious displeasure over the dismal performance of the Chief Education Officer, Srinagar, regarding the construction programme under SSA. It was seen that 327 No. of schools taken up under SSA wef 2002 -2003 have not been completed."
The record note issued under No. 7163-71 date 05-01-2012 by the chief planning officer, Srinagar, B A Makhdoomi, further reads: "The district development commissioner while reviewing the progress of SSA was not convinced because of the availability of inadequate information on the scheme and fixed date of review meeting on 14/12/1012 and directed the CEO to come along with ZEOs and further directed the CEO to go through in detail the prescribed guidelines of RMSA/SSA and convene the RMSA/SSA meetings with ZEOs."
Pertinently, the review meeting scheduled on January 14 was deferred following snowfall and was not held till date.
Meanwhile, official sources revealed that 15 schools in the district Srinagar were without toilet facilities and 17 schools without drinking water facilities. The chief education officer, Srinagar, Muhammad Javid, according to record note, "reported that under RMSA no funds have been released so far by the director RMSA and under SSA only Rs 165.40 lakh under Revenue Component against the approved outlay of Rs 715.00 lakh have been released in his favour which has been utilized in full".
The executive engineer, R&B-II, Satish Kumar, the district youth services and sports officer, M Aslam Khan, the principal DIET, Syed Aijaz Qulandar, and the AEE, Rajinder Singh, were also present at the review meeting.
