Why can't Omar ask Peerzada to step aside till CB probe is completed? | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 1: The State school education minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed has made an unknown revelation while trying to defend an indefensible case. Talking to the current news programme of Radio Kashmir, Peerzada said how could the authenticity of answer sheet photocopy of his son circulated in the media be ascertained when the original records have already been destroyed by the board of school education (BOSE). Peerzada said all the answer sheets pertaining to secondary school annual examination 2009 have been destroyed by BOSE authorities as all such records are destroyed by the BOSE after a period of six months. The minister is under a dark cloud after the photocopy of his step son's answer sheet for secondary school examination 2009 was published showing clearly that a portion of an answer had been written in two hand writings. Peerzada has also ridiculed reports that he would resign from the State cabinet. "Those who demand my resignation are living in fool's paradise." He said maintaining he had explained the position to the Chief Minister and he welcomed the crime branch probe into the whole incident. The minister said he was being victimized for the infighting within BOSE. It is strange that a minister who has sworn allegiance to the constitution, fair play, honesty and integrity should sit tight on a position which he ostensibly misused to arrange for his step son's success in the secondary examination. How many of the candidates, parents, teachers and other common men knew till Peerzada revealed that all records pertaining to exams conducted by the BOSE are destroyed at six monthly periodicity? It is quite possible that the answer sheets pertaining to this examination must have been destroyed because their preservation would endanger the minister's post. In the brazen disregard of propriety by the minister the onus falls directly on the Chief Minister. Omar Abdullah is bound by his oath of office to drop the minister or ask him to submit his resignation from the council of ministers. How can somebody facing such a serious allegation continue in office till his name is cleared by the probe ordered by the Chief Minister? How can the probe be completely in a fair and impartial manner when the person against whom the probe has been ordered remains in office? Would any official of the BOSE afford to give evidence against a minister in chair? The least that can be done and should have been done is to ask the minister to step aside till the probe is completed. It has now ceased to be between Peerzada and his conscience or integrity, the ball is clearly and objectively in the Chief Minister's court. |
