Education receives focused attention of Govt: Sham
Asks teachers to strive for better results

AKHNOOR, Feb 1: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma has said that education sector has received focused attention of the government during the past some years, especially in the rural areas.
He said since 2002 the successive governments have laid major focus on this sector and made earnest efforts to extend educational facility to the doorsteps of students by opening new and upgrading the existing schools.
Speaking at the annual day function of the Government High School, Sunail, here today, the Minister said since 2004 scores of new Higher Secondary schools, 27 high schools, 180 Middle Schools and 300 primary schools and one Degree College have been opened in Akhnoor Tehsil. With the establishment of these institutions, the education graph has substantially increased.
Asserting that education was key to development of a society, he said the government would continue its endeavour to expand the reach of this facility to every nook and corner.
He said for the past some years, the government has introduced various job oriented courses to enable the students to face the employment challenges in future.
He asked the students to work hard to achieve their set goals.
Issuing soft warming to the teachers to improve results in the government schools, the Minister said that the government has improved infrastructure according to the new trends and it is their duty to give their hundred percent to improve results.
He also stressed on imparting moral education to the students to enable them to take future challenges boldly.
He also called for extra-curricular activities in schools side by side academics for the overall development of the students.
On the occasion, he announced construction of additional accommodation at the school.
He directed the concerned officers to prepare a comprehensive proposal for the additional accommodation as per the requirement of the school.
Responding to the demand of opening another high school in the area, he assured that the government will examine the demand on priority and suggested that Gurah Talab will be suitable place for the school.
Vice Chairman, OBC Development Advisory Board, Mr. Kuldeep Verma also addressed the gathering and appreciated the excellent performance of the school children in different fields.
He also distributed prizes amongst the participants.
SDM, Akhnoor N.S. Jamwal, Sarpanchs, Panchs, parents and sectoral officers of various departments were also present on the occasion.
