Mendhar town observes complete band against attack on two people by santro borne youth

JAMMU, Feb 1: The Mendhar town observed a complete bandh today with shopkeepers downed shutters of their business establishments and transport remained off the roads in protest against the attack by four santro borne youth on two people at Dharana Mendhar late last night after intruding into their house.
The bandh call was given by Sarpanch Mendhar Davinder Kumar Tandon to protest against the bizarre act and prevailing lawlessness in the town. It was supported by president Beopar Mandal Parween Kumar Sawhney, Sanatan Dharam Sabha president, Satish Sharma, president of Panch Association Rajiv Gupta and Transport Association.
Hundreds of protestors took to streets and later gathered at Main Chowk Mendhar and held a massive protest against the yesterday's incident. They were joined by the protestors from students of Government Degree College Mendhar led by its Association president Rafter Hussain Shah, Pahari Student Union president, Rahees Ahmed Khan and Women Students Union president, Ifsha Firdos.
They shouted slogans against the administration and police for their failure in maintain law and order in the town. They demanded immediate arrest of the youth and action under law against them and pledged to maintain peace and communal amity in the area.
People from all walks of life including a sizable number of Muslims joined the protest and pledged to frustrate the designs of those who try to create a wedge among the people.
The demonstrators were addressed by Messrs Tandon, Congress leader, Kofil Ahmed Khan, Satish Sasan of Hindu Maha Sabha. They warned that people will continue protest unless and until the guilty are not punished.
To control the situation Additional SP Poonch Yougal Manhas visited Menhdar to pursue the protestors to call off the strike. He assured them that the culprits will be arrested within two days. He was accompanied by SDPO, Parbit Singh, Tehsildar, Mendhar, Subash Dogra and other police and civil officers.
Later DC Poonch Ajay Kumar Sahu also visited Mendhar to ascertain the situation in the town.
According to reports four Maruti borne youth yesterday attacked Ashish Bakshi a 14 year old youth and son of Champa Devi and Ravinder Singh a tenant in her house late last night after forcibly intruding into the house. Champa Devi had gone to Jammu and her three children including two daughters and son were staying at home.
The attack created panic in the area and people came on roads to protest. However the assailants managed to escape in the cover of darkness till police team reached the spot. The Police has registered an FIR No 11 under Section 323/453/454 and launched a man hunt to nab the santro borne youth.
To protest against this bizarre incident and failure of the administration to maintain the law and order the people gave a bandh call for today in the town which got a total response from all communities.
The people said that they identify one of the attackers and he happens to be a brother of a political leader.
