| Haran, Bhagtan staged at folk theatre fest. | | | JAMMU | JAN 16 In the ongoing folk theatre festival at Abhinav theatre , which has been jointly organized by Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi and J&K Academy of Art cultural and languages, Folk performances on Haran and Bhagtan were presented by different groups. On the occasion, papers were read out by Shiv Dev Singh Susheel and Mohan Singh. Speaking about ‘Haran’ , Susheel said that it is celebration related to the festival of ‘Lohri’ which starts fifteen days ahead of the festival. As per the rite, children move from door to door singing tradition rhymes associated with the festival and people give traditional sweets as well as money to them. Whereas ‘Bhagta’, is purely based on ‘Nukhar Theatre’ which is performed by the people of Gujjar, Bakarwal and other backward classes. It is a spontaneous activity which goes without any script or reheard speaking on the occasion, Secretary JKAAC, Dr. Masoudi said that to make the people of State aware of different culture, cultural exchange programmes would be conducted in J&K region respectively. Among the artists who performed on the stage include Mohan Mistry and Party from Udhampur, Girdhari Singh and Ramleela club from Kathua, Charan Dass Magotra and Party from Kathua and Teg Ram and Party from Dansal.
