Jammu faces Samba in kho-kho summit clash today
Director Sports declares PYKKA meet open

JAMMU, Feb 2: Jammu district shall lock horns with district Samba in kho-kho boys under-16 title clash in the State Level Inter-District PYKKA meet, which got underway at Government Higher Secondary School, Domana, here today.
Director Youth Services and Sports, S Jaipal Singh was the chief guest on the inaugural ceremony and declared the meet open in a colourful and well attended function. He was accompanied by Balbir Singh, Principal Higher Secondary School Domana, Mohd Din, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, PYKKA and Tirath Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu and organizing secretary of the tournament.
350 players drawn from various districts of the state are participating in this 2-days competition held under Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Panchayat Yuva Krida and Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) in the disciplines of kho-kho and kabaddi for boys under-16 years.
Earlier, in kho-kho, Jammu district thrashed Baramulla easily by 12 points in the semifinals to meet Samba in the summit clash tomorrow. District Samba made it to the finals by defeating Reasi in another semifinal.
In the quarterfinals, Reasi outplayed Kulgam by 9 points, Samba trounced Srinagar by 8 points, Jammu thrashed Anantnag by 10 points and Baramulla outclassed Ganderbal again by 10 points. Meanwhile, in under-16 boys kabaddi tournament, districts Udhampur and Kathua made it to the final by defeating their rivals Reasi and Poonch in the semifinals respectively. Udhampur defeated Reasi by 4 points, while Kathua outplayed Poonch by 15 points. Earlier, in the quarterfinals, Kathua thrashed Doda by 21 points, Poonch beat Baramulla by 5 points, Reasi drubbed Kulgam by 10 points and Udhampur trounced Pulwama by 8 points.
Other results of kho-kho: Reasi scripted a narrow win over Kupwara by one point, Budgam got walkover against Kathua, Bandipora registered a thrilling one-point win over Kishtwar, Anantnag got walkover against Doda, Jammu beat Budgam by 6 points, Ganderbal trounced Poonch by 3 points, Baramulla got better of Bandipora by 9 points, Samba outclassed Shopian by 10 points, Kulgam got walkover against Rajouri, Srinagar scripted a close win over Udhampur by one point, Reasi got walkover against Ramban and Samba registered a huge win by 14 points over Pulwama.
Other results of Kabaddi: Samba beat Shopian by 9 points, Reasi crushed Kupwara by a huge margin of 33 points, Udhampur outplayed Srinagar by 17 points, Kulgam drubbed Rajouri by 18 points, Pulwama trounced Samba by 24 points, Reasi got walkover against Ramban, Kathua scripted a huge win by 53 points over Budgam, Bandipora got walkover against Kishtwar, Doda beat Anantnag by 9 points, Poonch thrashed Ganderbal by 23 points, Kathua prevailed over Jammu by 5 points and Baramulla trounced Bandipora by 22 points.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Pushpa Sharma, Physical Instructor, DIET Reasi and ZPEO's Sunita Goel, Chanchal Kour, Vijay Mala, Indra Khushu, Sher Singh, Ram Kumar and Jeet Singh.
