Balwant Thakur to head North East cultural mission | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 2: Balwant Thakur, Director Natrang Jammu has been nominated to head the North-East Cultural Mission which aims at rejuvenating the cultural scene of the region. The mission is to identify the major thrust areas in the field of culture and will propose new initiatives to create more exchanges between the seven states and also with rest of India. Recognizing Balwant Thakur's outstanding services in rejuvenating the cultural scene of the State of Jammu & Kashmir, particularly his remarkable work in Kashmir in reviving the age-old traditional performing arts especially the Bhand Pather, he has been honored to head a group of the eminent artists of the country. Balwant Thakur will leave for Imphal (Manipur) on February 8, and will cover all the North Eastern States in next four days. This is not the first occasion that Balwant Thakur will be visiting North East. As playwright he has twelve original plays to his credit which are considered as one of the significant contribution to Indian Theatre in the post India Independence period. He also served on the Boards of prestigious Institutions of the country including, Department of Culture, Govt. of India, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, North Zone Cultural Centre, Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and as an expert for National School of Drama, Department of Culture, M.P., Department of Language & Culture, H.P. and Association of Indian Universities. Widely traveled Balwant Thakur held his presentations in Bangkok (Thailand) Singapore, London, Oxford, Brighton, Stratford, Berlin, Frankfurt, (Germany), Rome (Italy) Moscow, Yoroslov, Belgrade, St. Petersburg, Turkey, Denmark, Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Dhaka. Currently heading Natrang, Jammu….the first full-time professional cultural Institution of J&K. |
