Bhalla reviews status of various portable water supply schemes

JAMMU, Feb 2: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla today convened a high level meeting of concerned departments to review the progress of various water supply schemes coming up in the Ganghinagar constituency and stressed for their timely completion so that people get assured water supply.
Commissioner/Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control B D Sharma, Director ERA, O.P Dubey, Chief Engineers, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control besides other senior officers of PHE, I&FC were present in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Bhalla asked the PHE and ERA authorities to put their sincere efforts in completing the ongoing projects executed in various localities in the constituency well before the start of summer season so that the people do not feel any problem on this account.
On this occasion the Minister said that recently 18 lakh gallon discharge capacity Boria Intake Filtration Plant was dedicated to the people of Jammu city by which the drinking water scarcity in the constituency has been tackled to a large extent.
Bhalla said for augmentation of pumping capacity to Over Head, the Government has installed 44 horizontal centrifugal pump sets along with automatic voltage Regulator, soft Sarter Panel etc to boost the drinking water supply in far-off areas of the constituency.
The Minister also directed the ERA to complete the ongoing construction works of OHTs in the constituency by April 2012 so that the people do not feel any inconvenience.
Regarding upgradation of irrigation channels at Langer, Ambika Coliony, Raipur Satwari and Jeevan Nagar, Bhalla asked the Chief Engineer Irrigation department to start the desalting of these canals and construction works of Rabi Tawi Irrigation canal from Bahu Fort to Trikuta Nagar so that the regular irrigation facilities are provided to the farmers during sowing season.
