Omar lays stress on local employment in industrial units | Approves Rs 8 cr for VAT refund | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb2: Chairing the Industrial Advisory Committee meeting here on Thursday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stressed on coordinated efforts by the government departments and industrial fraternity to generate feasible industrial development and employment generating environment in the State. "While Government has a role to facilitate and help industrialisation, the absorption of unemployed youth in industrial units is the obligation of the investors", he said adding that he would lead a delegation of industrialists from the State to the Central Government to advocate for extension of industrial package to the State for further ten years. The present package is ending in June 2012. "This window of central assistance in the form of various concessions to the industrialists should be available to them for another ten years to push forward growth and development of industry in the State", he said adding that the issue would be vigorously advocated at the Central level. The Chief Minister told the Presidents and Chairperson of various industrial organizations who participated in the meeting to accomplish their responsibility of providing employment to the local youth in industrial units while striving for various incentives and packages. He said the packages and incentives provided to the industrialists through the Central and State initiatives are mainly aimed at providing jobs to the unemployed local youth and help in economic growth. "We are doing our job and you have to move ahead on this front", he asserted. Omar said that he has approved refund of VAT as provided under the industrial policy to the industrialists to the tune of Rs. 8 crores for the current year. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Minister for Industries, S. S. Slathia, Minister of State for Industries, Manohar Lal, Principal Secretaries, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, B. B. Vyas, Sudhanshu Pandey, Umang Narula, Union Joint Secretary, Shobra Singh, Commissioner Secretaries, B. A. Runiyal, Shant Manu, Directors of Industries, Kashmir, Mehraj-ud-Din, Director Industries Jammu, Managing Director, SICOP and various other senior officers. The meeting was also attended by Presidents and Chairpersons of Federation of Industries Jammu (FOIJ), Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir (FCIK), Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI), Jammu Chamber of Industries and Commerce and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
