Strange! Miscreants bash raiding Cops in Katra, escape freehand | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 2: Crime is not new in holy town of Katra-the base camp of world famous revered shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, but this is a horrible incident that occurred few days back. Few miscreants belonging to a particular community were intercepted by a police team for allegedly selling mutton to some local inhabitants in narrow lanes of a locality near Old Petrol Pump area in Katra, about 45 kms from here. Astonishingly, the miscreants bashed the raiding police party before leaving the spots. Furthermore shocking part was that even after the occurrence of such incident, no case was registered against the miscreants for the reasons best known to Katra police. "Instead of fleeing from the spot, the miscreants (identity of whom have been kept secret by police) pounced upon the police party headed by Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station, Katra, Inspector Pardeep Gupta and inflicted minor injuries to the raiding police party," reliable sources disclosed to ET further adding that "Before police could counter the sudden and unexpected attack, the miscreants managed to escape in the inner lanes." "When the police personnel escorting Inspector Pradeep Gupta went ahead in the inner lanes chasing the miscreants, Gupta was all alone standing near the police Gypsy vehicle, some of the miscreants who were hiding in other streets returned from the rear side of the police officer and started badly beating up the officer. Before he could raise alarm for assistance from the police personnel, miscreants against fled away from the spot leaving Inspector with no other option than to wait for his Personal Security Officers (PSOs). It was only after the police personnel returned near the vehicle, again a manhunt was launched but police failed to apprehend the miscreants," reliable sources further disclosed. While the senior police officers including SP, Katra and SDPO, Katra have opted to maintain silence for obvious reasons and were not available for comment despite repeated attempts, sources in police department indicated that "had police registered a case, it would have been sheer humiliation for them as Police was publicly beaten up in a locality in Katra. Further, police have not been able to trace the miscreants till date." Another important issue which the police sources indicated that "as the issue was of selling of mutton in holy town of Katra, so apprehension may have cropped up in the mind of senior officers of group clash in two communities." "But just to remain mum will not solve the issue as it may encourage the miscreants to repeat such incident again in near future if they are not booked under law," pointed out sources. |
