Project 'Bana Singh Stadium' in doldrums as Govt is busy in 'Golf Courses' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 2: As the state government showed its keenness to promote development of Golf Courses across three regions of the state but it virtually has failed to develop basic facilities at the Bana Singh Stadium RS Pura for the last two decades, dedicated to the Param Vir Chakra awardee, Honorary Captain Bana Singh. Though tall claims appearing in media show state government's claims for development of the Bana Singh Stadium, but nothing seems to be on grounds an a cursory visit to the Bana Singh Stadium in RS Pura is enough to expose the tall promises made by the successive state governments in the name of developing the place for posterity. However the places offered a public urinal cum lavatory at the entry of the Bana Singh Sports Stadium RS Pura while it has also offered a short cut to those visiting near by Govt degree college park their cars in the open area. While this stadium dedicated to gallant hero is in shambles, the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today said that the creation of Golf Circuit in the State would help rope in national and international golfers to the State giving boost to tourism related activities. Omar while chairing first Governing Body meeting of Jammu Tawi Golf Course (JTGC) said that the completion and inauguration of Golf Courses at Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sidhra (Jammu) and development of Golf Course at Leh would attract golfers to the State to play in different environments during their stay in the three regions and approved release of Rs 3 Crores for the development of the 9-holes Sidhra Golf Course to 18-holes in one go. But who will let the Omar and others to know that except few countable head including chief minister's father Farooq Abdullah people in state don't play this (golf) a game of aristocrats and nobles. While the state government finds itself pre occupied to clear forest for making Golf Courses in state at the cost of environment and local fauna flora, the open land demarcated as Stadium for youth of Jammu region is crying for its maintenance and besides due infrastructure reasons well known to the elite class of politicians. "On the other hand any outsider visiting the place would find it difficult to find any mention of the brave soldier's heroism. A platform that has been raised inside the ground but it is not worth anything as it is in shambles, a local lamented. After facing official apathy and complete neglect at the hands of the successive state governments, the hopes were raised for the locals when the Omar Abdullah govt had sanctioned a sum of Rs 50 lakh for the development of facilities at the stadium in April 2010, but this too failed to get the dream project to become reality. It may be mentioned that Senior cabinet minister RS Chib had even kick started developmental works inside Bana Singh Stadium in RS Pura by organising a grand ceremony. The slow pace of ongoing work has annoyed the brave soldier. "The state government had promised setting up of Bana Singh Stadium more than 20 years ago but it is yet to come up. The present government is doing some work but I am not sure how long it will take them to complete this project, PVC awardee Honorary Captain Bana Singh said. "The state government here has failed to build basic facilities in the stadium in the last 20 years, he regretted. |
