AWSC, ASHA Celebrate Wet Land Day | | | Early TImes Report
Jammu, Feb 3: Senior Citizens of Jammu, under Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens (AWSC) and Ayurvedic Society for Health Awareness (ASHA) in collaboration with WWF observed 'International wetland Day' at Gharana, famous 'wet land and Migratory Bird Sanctuary' situated at Indo-Pak border in RS Pura Sector. A group of more than 35 members of AWSC and ASHA visited Gharana visited Gharana Wetland spend the day with migratory birds from different parts of the world at Gharana. It was really a feast to the eyes watching thousands of birds flying from one part of the Wet Land to another in flocks of hundreds of them in one go, flying over a vast area of about 500-acres from one place to another. Dr C M Seth, Chief Conservator Forests (Rtd) who is presently as Chairman WWF for J&K was already there with hundreds of school children from several different schools participating in painting competition and essay writing on environment and love for birds. The senior citizens and members of ASHA enjoyed the sight of both children and the Birds around them for hours. Dr C M Seth and Dr D N Raina, Asstt Dir ISM (Rtd) and a social activist enlightened the members about history of migratory birds, importance of preserving and developing the wet land area in such a manner that more and more birds are tempted to visit the Gharana Wet Land area. Vikram Gour, President AWSC and Dr H N Patwari thanked Dr CM Seth and entire team of WWF for making arrangements for the visit and coordination with both AWSC and ASHA. |
