| JKSACS organizes conference for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHAs) | | | Early TImes Report
Jammu, Feb 3: &K State AIDS Prevention & Control Society (JKSACS) in collaboration with Department of Medicine, GMC, Jammu organized a conference for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHAs).
The conference was attended by doctors and PLHAs and dealt in detail about the different issues and problems faced by PLHAs and efforts being made to redress their grievances.
The conference started with an introduction to the facilities that are being provided by JKSACS Dr. Shazia from Department of Medicine highlighted the different aspects of HIV/AIDS. Dr. Bela Mahajan, HOD Microbiology, GMC Jammu stressed the need for joining hands to fight this epidemic.
The interactive session conducted by Mrs. Deepika B. Thakur, Deputy Director (IEC), JKSACS was presided over by Dr. Rakesh Khajuria, Project Director, J&K State AIDS Control Society. The experts in the session included Dr. B. B. Gupta, HOD Medicine/Nodal Officer ART Centre, GMC, Jammu, Dr. Ravinder Rattan Pal, Medical Superintendent CD Hospital, Jammu, Dr. Bella Mahajan, HOD Microbiology, GMC, Jammu and Dr. J. P. Singh, Department of Medicine, GMC, Jammu.
The issues concerning the facilities that need to be provided to PLHAs were taken up in the interactive session, some of the speakers voiced out their concern for discrimination. Dr. B. B. Gupta assured all medical facilities would be provided to them and also directed the ART staff to be more cooperative and ensure that PLHAs are properly taken care off.
In this context Dr. Rakesh Khajuria, Project Director, JKSACS assured that steps would be initiated at all levels to provide them financial and medical help with the support of all Government Departments and Non-Government Organizations and also assured timely ARV Drugs and other Medical facilities to PLHAs.
Among other staff of JKSACS Officers/officials who participated in the conference included Dr. Shikha Dwivedi, PO, ART, Mrs Radhika Sudhan, GIPA Coordinator,Dinesh Kesar, M&EA.
