Harsh lambastes Centre and State Govt for neglect of Jammu lakes
2/4/2012 12:09:40 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 3: Harsh Dev Singh NPP MLA and working chairman has strongly condemned the neglect of Mansar and Surinsar Lakes in the matter of funds allocation by the Govt. of India and sanction of an additional package of Rs 356 crore exclusively for Dal Lake in yesterday's meeting held in New Delhi.
Describing the union government's decision as the most blatant act of regional discrimination, Harsh lambasted the State Govt. for its apathy and neglect of the tourist resorts of Jammu region and intentional non-projection of demands with respect to their development. He charged the state govt with projecting only the valley based projects to the utter neglect of Jammu region tourism despite the fact that more than one crore tourists including pilgrim tourists are visiting Jammu each year. NPP leader said that last year figures pertaining to tourists visits to J&K indicated that out 1.2 crore tourists who visited the state, 95 lacs were pilgrim tourists who visited Jammu only. He regretted that despite the huge tourist inflow to this part of the State, its tourism development had been given the most hostile treatment.
Harsh further pointed out that he had personally taken up the matter regarding the development of tourist infrastructure at Mansar and Surinsar with the Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh who had assured to have the needful done. He claimed that the Prime Minister, in pursuance of his requests, had even written to the State Govt. to have Mansar and Surinsar Lakes included within the purview of 'Lakes and Waterways Development Authority'.
Lambasting the central and State govts for the raw deal given to Jammu region in the matter of tourism along with other sectors, Singh said that total sanction of Rs. 1100 crore including Rs. 356 crore sanctioned yesterday for Dal lake and Rs. 386 crore for Wullar lake defied all logic. Urging for an equitable share to the water bodies of Jammu region, Harsh sought adequate funds for Mansar, Surinsar and Dalsar lakes so as to ensure balanced development of tourist destinations of Jammu region as well. He said that the issue would be vigorously and vociferously agitated in the Assembly.
