JAMMU, Feb 3: Teaching faculty of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra has raised serious questions over scandalous recruitment and promotion policies being followed by the administration which is promoting an era of 'favoritism and nepotism.'
In a letter written to the Chancellor of University NN Vohra, copies of which have been sent to Chief Minister as well as members of the shrine board, SMVDU employees have demanded inquiry into what they have termed as 'mess'. They have alleged that a fear of a political controversy prevented the union government from granting status of Central University (CU) to SMVDU.
The employees have alleged that Prof RN Bamzai as Vice Chancellor (VC) of SMVDU has failed to improve overall situation in the university. A one liner syndrome has invaded the administration "Please See, Please Examine, Please do the needful," they alleged
"University employees further alleged one Assistant Registrar is leaving no stone unturned to get promoted as Deputy Registrar," the letter reads.
As contained in the letter, the allegations while for the post of Deputy Registrar, one Vivek has been projecting himself as potential candidate another Rajesh who is presently on deputation from Public Sector and working as Section Officer (Legal) is being projected as suitable candidate for Assistant Registrar Legal.
Further, it is being alleged that post of Assistant Registrar (legal) was re-advertised to ensure Rajesh fulfills eligibility criteria.
The letter further maintains that despite government saying no to re-engagement after 60 years, finance officer has been getting extensions.
"In his appointment order, it was mentioned that he will be picked up and dropped from his residence to University and vice-versa. But about two months after his appointment, he got a car independently issued by Registrar and VC," adds the letter.
It mentions that Project Engineer is also a retired person. "Tenders worth Rs 9.5 Crore of buildings are tossing up from his office to registrar and vice versa. An escalation of 25 percent is on cards," alleges the letter.
It maintains that Dr Indresh Kumar, a faculty member who had a tiff with VC, thereafter feeling suffocated working in Biotechnology department. The letter maintains that Kumar resigned.
The employees, through the letter claim that even Dean and Director of Biotechnology Department do not have cordial relations with VC. They allege that about a dozen quarters are lying vacant in the campus and their annual maintenance is in lakhs. They have added that faculty hardly takes classes as there is no check on them since the VC is busy with his own JNU work.
Employees have alleged that machine installed by him worth Rs 2 Crores is lying unused and has gathered dust. Employees are neither getting their arrears nor their due DA installments. They can be easily found from the records," the letter alleges.
