Users left hassled after BSNL services go off air due to technical snag at Bantalab mobile switch centre | | | Bharat Bhushan JAMMU, Feb 3: Mobile phone services of BSNL -- India's largest mobile phone service provider which boasts of its "global excellence and innovative technology" -- have been in a state of disarray here. Customers only rue their fate as network problem refuses to go. While BSNL's network coverage had been very poor for the past over a month, or so, it today totally went off the air in various areas, including old city, Akhnoor and parts of Rajouri, for nearly six hours, causing untold problems to its customers. The BSNL mobile phone users in these areas remained cut off from their acquaintances for nearly six hours. "The services remained off from 4.30 am to 10.15 am due to a technical snag at the main mobile switch centre, Bantalab, on the city outskirts," a senior BSNL officer said. During this time, services to BSNL mobile phone users were totally affected in all the old city localities, Akhnoor and some Rajouri areas, he added. The fault was repaired at about 10.15 am and the services were restored, the officer, who did not want to be quoted, said. The customers were harried as even enquiry numbers did not respond to their repeated calls. The today's network breakdown also belied BSNL's claims that it had the state-of-the-art technology for its customers as when its network failed, the services of private players in the field ran smoothly. The people of Poonch have also complained of poor cellphone services. They said there had been an acute network problem in the district. The people of Doda, Bhaderwah, Udhampur and Reasi also made similar complaints. |
