State advised to initiate measure for ensuring full implementation of funds | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 4 : The centre has asked Jammu and Kashmir Government to explain the reasons that led to the failure on the part of the state agencies in completing the target fixed under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in the state. Official sources said that since 2006,when the scheme was introduced in two districts of the state, till the end of last year there has been a shortfall between 40 and 55 percent. Sources said that as a result of the shortfall the Government has failed to utilise the central funds allocated under the scheme the problem of unemployment in the rural areas has not been tackled properly. Experts have suggested to the Government that instead of extending the scheme to all the 22 districts the scheme should find implementation in the farflung and backward areas in the state. They has also suggested to the Government to fix the responsibility on the shoulders of those who had not been able to implement the scheme and achieve between 75 per cent and 90 per cent results. Government sources said that as far as the implementation of various schemes under the state and under the central sectors were concerned there has been constant story about poor utilisation of funds. The Government has been advised to find measures so that there was proper utilisation of funds which would help people to get the benefits. |
