World Cancer Day observed at Gandhi Nagar hospital | Sham lauds Fortis, Medanta for free consultation to Cancer patients | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 4: On the eve of the World Cancer Day, a Cancer Screening & Detection camp was organized by a private hospital at Gandhi Nagar hospital for the benefit of patients from Jammu and Kashmir. The camp was inaugurated by the Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma. A team of super specialists gave free consultation to the patients suffering from the life consuming disease. This is an initiative taken by the Minister with an objective to provide free consultation to the poor patients from different corners of the State, who cannot afford to move to Amritsar or any other part of the country. Lauding the gesture of the Fortis Escorts and Medanta the Medicity, Gurgaon for providing free services to the patients of Jammu and Kashmir at their doorsteps, the Minister said that it is a great help to the poor patients who cannot afford to move outside the State due to financial and other reasons. He expressed his gratitude to the management of these hospitals for taking this philanthropic initiative for the poor people. Sharma maintained that the Central Government has taken a major initiative for the Cancer patients and they will extend financial assistance upto Rs. 25 lakh for the treatment of poor patients. He said State Government also provides necessary assistance to the patients upto the extent possible. Keeping in mind the expenses coming on such disease, the Government has introduced the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY). With the launching of this scheme, the poor people of Jammu and Srinagar districts will be able to take the benefits upto Rs. 35,000 per family to be borne by the Insurance Companies. He said initially this scheme is applicable in two capital cities and gradually will be extended to all districts. This will be tremendous help to those poor families who cannot afford expensive treatment in the hospitals, he added. To create the infrastructure for the patients suffering from Cancer, the Minister maintained that the Government has taken up with the Central Government for establishing two Cath Labs one each at Police Hospitals, Srinagar and Jammu. He hoped that the necessary infrastructure will be created soon and this would be great help to the poor patients suffering from the life consuming disease. |
