J&K wins 4 medals on opening day of Kurash Championship

JAMMU, Feb 4: Jammu and Kashmir made a winning start with four medals on inaugural day of the Ist Junior National Kurash Championship got underway at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here under the banner of J&K Kurash Association.
Two boys and an equal number of girls won medals for J&K on the first day. While Danish won a silver in 66 kg category, Paheli and Poonam bagged bronze in 52 and 63 kg weight groups respectively.
Earlier, the championship was declared open by Member Parliament and patron of the Association, Lal Singh while incharge Secretary State Sports Council, Kiran Wattal and general secretary of Kurash Association of India, Ravi Kapoor were guests of honour.Speaking to the gathering, Member Parliament lauded the efforts of the state association in hosting the mega event in the state.
Around 300 young boys and girls drawn from 18 different states of the country are participating in this two day competition.
Prominent among others present were Sourav Choudhary (vice-chairman), Dr Sandeep Singh (president), Shashi Balgotra (senior vice- President), Rajeev Sharma (vice-president), Dr Seema (secretary general), Rohit Gupta (treasurer), Shashi Balgotra, Vipul Gupta (media secretary), JK Bansal (chairman technical committee), Sunil Verma and Sanjeev Gupta (both joint secretaries).

BOYS: Below 66 Kg: Ankit, Delhi, Ist; Danish, J&K, 2nd; Mohit, Maharashtra and Jatin, Haryana, joint 3rd. Below 60 Kg: Karam, Punjab, Ist; Rohit, Haryana, 2nd; Ravi, Chandigarh and Pankaj, Himachal, joint 3rd. GIRLS: Below 52 kg: Bhumika Bhasin, Chandigarh, Ist; Monu, Haryana, 2nd; Rinky, Delhi and Paheli, J&K, joint 3rd. Below 57 kg: Urvashi, Delhi, Ist; Aarushi, Chandigarh, 2nd; Sushila, Rajasthan and Mukesh, Haryana, joint 3rd. Below 63 Kg: Ankita, Delhi, Ist; Shivanjali, Rajasthan, 2nd and Poonam, J&K, 3rd.
