Coalition discriminating with Jammu even in holding public darbars | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Feb 3: With discrimination with the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions prevailing in all spheres of life it appears that the coalition Government led by Omar Abdullah has taken the people of Jammu region for granted and there is no end to that in sight. The dsicrimiantionw ith this region has not been in the matter of distribution of funds, employment and development but even in holding the public darbars to hear the peoples problems though for face saving only Jammu is being often neglected and ignored. Beating all previous records this government does not bother to look into the problems of the hapless people of this region whether living in remote areas of Doda, Bhadarwah, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi hilly districts are people living in far flung areas of Kathua, Samba and Udhampur districts or for that matter in the plains of Jammu. The problems to these people are of greater magnitude than that of Kashmir Valley but the present government led by Omar Abdullah has left them in lurch. And notwithstanding the government claims that there is no discrimination with any region, and every region gets its due share, the people of Jammu region as well Ladakh continue to get a raw deal through the hands of the governemnt. There has been a wide ranging resentment among the people against the increasing discrimination with the region and people are even agitated against the ministers and legislators from the region for their failure in coming to the expectations of the masses, said Rakesh Sharma a social activist. The people in snow bound and mountainous reaches of Jammu region like Doda, Bhadarwah, Kishtwar, Ramban and even in Poonch district also faced many hardships due to recent snowfall and cold wave conditions but no minister from the Omar Abdullah's government bothered to visit there, he added. Rakesh said that people remained stranded for days tighter and they could not reach their destinations after the Jammu-Kishtwar-Doda and Bhadarwah Highway remained blocked for several days due to heavy snowfall. But government failed to come to the rescue of these stranded passengers despite the pleas by local politicians of the area. What can be more discriminatory towards the region that Chief Minister while in Kashmir is organizing open public darbar for the people there to listen their problems and difficulties. The Jammuites are not against holding such public darbars in Valley but at the same time they want that these darbars should be also held in Winter Capital also to hear the problems of the people of this region too, said Satish Poonchi president JKPF. He said people of Jammu are totally upset over such a behavior of the government. The Ministers in coalition also never held such darbars in Jammu when the offices were in Summer Capital. In comparison to that the ministers from Jammu are on record to visit Kashmir Valley to hold such public darbars in Valley and summer capital of the state. Poonch said the advisor to Chief Minister Divinder Rana who never held such darbars in Jammu during the summer is now camping in Kashmir Valley to hear the problems of the people there. This step was never taken by the government to listen to woes of Jammuites, he added. Abdul Gafoor Bhat of Rajouri a social activist said that people in Jammu region especially those living in Doda, Marwah, Kishtwar, Banihal, Poonch and Mendhar areas have also been hit by heavy snowfall. The remote areas are facing shortage of foodgrains and other essential commodities like Kerosene Oil, LPG, sugar etc . Even in these localities the vegetables are also not available and the prices of commodities have touched peak. But the government did not bother to pay any heed to them and look into their miseries, he added.
