Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football begins today | PDC faces Sainik Colony in opening tie | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 5: The 3rd Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Championship, organised by Jammu and Kashmir Youth National Conference under the aegis of J&K Football Association, starts at GGM Sciene College ground here tomorrow. In the inaugural match, J&K Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) shall be playing against Sainik Colony Football Club at 3 pm tomorrow. "In all, 24 teams, divided into two different groups, have been enrolled in this knock-out event," said organizing secretary and provincial president of Youth National Conferene, Surinder Singh Bunty in a press conference held here this afternoon. All the top clubs and departmental teams as also two outside state teams shall be contesting for the top honours in this annual event. "Apart from other prizes, the finalist teams shall be rewarded with cash incentives in an attempt to encourage the talent and promote football in the state," said Bunty, who is also resident secretary of the Jammu wing of J&K Football Association. It is pertinent to mention here that the J&K Bank is defending champion after they defeated J&K Forest in the final last year at the same venue. Among others present were treasurer of JKFA, RK Kohli, Dr Nirmolak Singh, SM Gill and Kulbir Singh as also other members of the organizing committee. The Participating teams: Group-A: J&K Bank, Food and Supplies, J&K Police-B , Jammu Sports Club, EngineersXI , DFA Anantnag, Musa Club, Churchill Brothers, Jammu United, young Heroes, Shaheed Bhagat Singh club. Group- B: J&K Police A, J&K Power Development Corporation, Sainik Football Club, R&B, New Bharat, Young Star, NGR Club, Param Football Club, Young Rovers, Vijay Club and J&K Forests. |
