Role of Sikh community in nation building appreciable: Rather
Kashmir Sikh Sangat holds 8th convention

JAMMU, Feb 5 : Eulogising the commendable role of Sikh Community in the freedom struggle of the country as also in maintaining the communal harmony and brotherhood in the state, in testing times, the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affaris, Abdul Rahim Rather today said the Government would do everything possible to ensure equal opportunities of development and prosperity for its socio-economic empowerment.
Speaking at the 8Th convention of the Kashmir Sikh Sangat held at Jammu club, this afternoon, Rather said contribution of Sikh community in both nation building as well as State's march to socio political transformation is enshrined in the history in golden words. He said the community has produced many honest, and selfless leaders who have worked shoulder to shoulder with Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in his struggle against poverty, hunger, Ignorance and in Justice. Mentioning names of some stalwart Sikh leader like Sardar Budh Singh, Harbajan Singh Azad, Sardar Bali, Rather said their role is filling the colours on the map of Naya Kashmir can never be overlooked. He also appreciated the Sangat for its fight against corruption and social evils and called for Joint efforts to make J&K a crime free state. The Minister said Sher-i-Kashmir was always concerned about the plight of poor and wanted to involve them actively in the march towards prosperity and development.
The president of the Kashmir Sikh Sangat in his welcome address, sought seeking minority status and reservation for the Sikh Community in the State legislature. He said Sikh minority which has braved all odds and kept their roots intact in the valley despite two decade long militancy and have lived in complete harmony and brotherhood with the majority community. On this occasion, the minister gave away awards to various personalities on behalf of Sikh Sangat for their outstanding and distinguished services in different fields of life. Those included, S. S. Sag ( literary awad), S. Amaedeep ( Life Time Award), S. Jai Paul Singh, S. Baldev Singh ( upcoming Business man award) Sardar Moti Singh and Amar Preet Singh a Student of DPS for securing 100% marks.
