J&K will be the cultural capital of the country : Abhay Sopori

JAMMU , Feb 5 : Listening to the songs by Ashwani Kumar, Abhimanyu, Jasmine Kaur, Jasminder Kaur and many other students of Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Education and Research, Rangpur Maulania, RS Pora border, santoor maestro & music composer Abhay Rustum Sopori was overwhelmed with the talent in the young children.
Though the rainy night postponed the music concert which was to be held in the open lawns of the institute, but Abhay Sopori made a point to speak to the children who had been eagerly waiting for the Annual concert.
The students expressed their keen interest created in music and thanked SaMaPa and Abhay for planting the musical seed in them. A young student also said that they were missing Abhay and wanted to learn more from him. While promising the best that can be offered in music will be tried by SaMaPa, Abhay urged the students to do the best in their formal studies.
He promised that J&K will be the cultural capital of the country in due course of time, which is the dream of Pandit Bhajan Sopori, the music legend hailed as the cultural bridge of J&K and the country.
Founder of the Institute Sushil Choudhri expressed his gratitude to Abhay for taking time and speaking to the young children despite the programme being postponed due to bad weather.
The 7th edition of the ongoing SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2012 is being presented by Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts (SaMaPa) in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Deptt. of Tourism, J&K.
SaMaPa Aalap, the premium classical, Sufi and folk music festival of Jammu and Kashmir, featured a special concert on the Day 9 of the festival at the Namdhari Dharamshala, Jammu.
SaMaPa Aalap has been significant in revolutionizing the cultural scenario in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Commencing the recital with Aalap and Jod, they presented various compositions in Jhaptaal, Ektaal and Teentaal.
They were accompanied by Sarit Das on Tabla. A large number of music connoisseurs attended the concert and were mesmerized with the concert.
