No PoK guest today, 12 Kashmiris cross to other side of LoC | | | Early Times Report, Srinagar, Feb 6: Not a single guest from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) arrived here today while 12 Kashmiris crossed over to other side of the Line of Control (LoC). As many as 17 returnees, majority of them Kashmiris, crossed sides at Kaman post, the last Indian military post, after crossing the Aman Setu, peace bridge, on foot in Uri sector. Official sources said there was no new PoK guest in the Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, the capital of PoK. This was the second time during this year that no PoK guest arrived here in the weekly bus, plying every Monday. Earlier, On January 2 no PoK resident arrived here. However, on January 16 and 23 the bus service was cancelled due to heavy snowfall and threat of avalanches on both the sides of the LoC in Uri sector. The sources said 15 Kashmiris, who had gone to PoK in previous buses, returned to their homes today after completing stay across the border. They said 12 Kashmiris, including four women, crossed over to other side of the LoC to meet their relatives. However, two PoK resident, also returned to their homes after completing stay here. The service has so far benefited several thousand families, divided in 1947, to meet each other after India and Pakistan agreed to allow travel of state subjects on permits instead of International passports. However, the travel permit is being issued only after intelligence agencies of both the government cleared the name of a state subject living on both sides of the LoC. |
