KP youth tonsure heads demanding relief from central, state govts | | | Early times Report Jammu, Feb 6: Blaming Jammu and Kashmir Government and the Centre for allegedly adopting negligent approach, about 50 youths including women assembled outside the Press Club of Jammu this morning demanding relief announced for them by the Central and the state governments. In protest against the state government, about six male members of the Kashmiri Pandit Community today shaved their heads in this winter capital. Speaking on the occasion, one of the youth said, ''We were forced to demonstrate and take this step. In 1990 when the Community was forced to migrate from the valley the youths between the age groups of 18 to 25 are presently either at the verge of getting 'over aged' or have already crossed the age limit to get the government jobs.'' ''As there is no scope for us to get recruited in the government departments due to the age factor, the government should enhance cash assistance to the tune of Rs 12,000 per month per family and compensation of Rs 25 lakh each for such youths,'' they demanded. ''Had the government been sincere in mitigating our problems, we should not have suffered miserably after migration,'' the demonstrators alleged. They added that the relief being provided to them is not sufficient to meet their daily needs. |
