PDC makes winning start in football | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 6: The J&K Power Development Corporation (PDC) made a winning start with 2-0 comfortable win over Sainik Colony Football Club on the inaugural day of the 3rd Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Championship, organised by Youth National Conference at GGM Science College ground, here today. The first goal came through a penalty kick awarded in the 24th minute. Gulzar successfully dodged the guard at the net. The punishment to Sainik Colony in the hands of centre referee, Suresh Gupta for their foul play inside the striking area was unacceptable to boys in white, who lodged protest and halted the game for some time. However, it was only after the intervention of organizing secretary, Surinder Singh Bunty that the protesting Sainik Colony players return to the field and resumed the game after 10-minute. Playing with two professionals, an African, Kumara Mussa (Joseph) and Vidya Bedi of Orissa, PDC visibly had an upper hand in the game. And, four minutes after the first goal, Joseph netted the ball for second goal in the 28th minute. Entering into the second half with an invincible two goals lead, PDC kept on playing in same rhythm but with a caution not to allow Sainik Colony Club reduce the margin. Today's match was officiated by Suresh Gupta, Rajiv Dev, Vijay Kumar and Rickey Kumar. Earlier, special guest, Advisor to Chief Minister, Devinder Singh Rana could not make it to the ground due to certain engagements. The competition was declared open by Provincial president National Conference, Rattan Lal Gupta while MLA, Vimla Luthra presided. Among others present were treasurer of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), R K Kohli, Dr Nirmolak Singh, Kuldeep Singh, SM Gill and Yusuf Don. Earlier, the distinguished gathering was welcome by organizing secretary, Surinder Singh Bunty, who also presented a brief note of the event. |
