Extension lecture on Urdu prose held | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 6: The department of Urdu, University of Jammu today organized a thought provoking extension lecture on Urdu prose. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Ibn-e-Kenwal former HOD Urdu, Delhi University in the Prof. Gian Chand Jain seminar hall of the department. Former HOD Urdu Kashmir University Prof. Qudose Javed presided over the function, HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Prof. Nusrat Ara Choudhary, Prof. Sukhchain Singh, Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, Dr Chaman lal, Dr A R Manhas, Dr Farat Shamim were also present on the occasion. At the very outset the HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik welcome the visiting guests informed that department of Urdu, University of Jammu is the most vibrant department of the Urdu world which is organizing literary functions frequently. He said that Urdu is a universal language and in the present scenario Urdu can play vital role in maintaining communal harmony and Mutual Understanding. In his lecture Prof. Inb-e-Kenwal in detail threw light on the origin and development of Urdu Prose. He described "Sabras" the first book of Urdu Prose which was written in 1635. He informed that in 18th century writer were not paying attention towards Urdu Prose. It is therefore that no such marvelous book of prose was written in 18th century. He informed that Urdu prose get a tremendous response when Fortwilliam College was established in Kolkata "Bogabhar" was written in the college in 1803 which were liked by all. Prof. Kenwal further informed that Galib was first writing his letter in Persian but later he shifted towards Urdu in 1848. The letters written by Galib gave a tremendous boost to Urdu Prose. Prof. Kenwal also in detail threw light on Aligarh Movement, Urdu Novel and Urdu Short Stories. He described the 19th century the century of Urdu Prose. He said that the age of Urdu prose is hardly 250 years and during these years much prose were written. This is because of it that Urdu prose is so rich that we can place it together with the Prose of other big languages added Prof. Kenwal. In his presidential address Prof. Qudose Javed said that Prose is written consciously while poetry is written unconsciously. Prof. Qudose Javed described "Rasadul Kheri" the first short stories writer of Urdu. He also threw light on short stories of Prem Chand, Sajad Hyder Yaldarm and others. Congratulating Prof. Kenwal for delivering a thought provoking lecture on Urdu Prose,he informed that such lectures are very useful for the students as they provide latest information regarding Urdu language and literature. The proceedings of the program were conducted by Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed while vote of thanks was presented by Dr Chaman Lal. The lecture as attended by Students, scholars, University teachers and civil society members. |
