Workshop on Visual Arts begins at JU | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 6: A six day long workshop on Curating Indian Visual Culture, Theory & Practice Thematic Focus Art in Context of Conflicts began here today at University of Jammu (JU). The workshop is being organized by the Association of Academics-Artists and Citizens for the University Autonomy, Vadodra and the Indian Foundation for Arts, Bangalore in collaboration with University of Jammu. Prof M P Singh Isher Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu inaugurated the workshop. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Ishar welcomed the artists who have come from different parts of the country to participate in this workshop. He said, "Art is concerned with expression, interest, social behavior and is more concerned with our identity." Prof Isher further stated that art is main tool required for the resolution of conflicts and other related issues." He also lauded the efforts made by the organizers for organizing such workshops which shall benefit Artists, Students, Scholars and Civil society at large. On this occasion, Prof Ishar felicitated renowned artist, Pt. Trilok Koul for his outstanding contribution in the field of Art and Culture by presenting him a Shawl. Earlier, Prof Isher visited Rinchen Bzangpo Art Gallery, Gen. Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex and inaugurated the paintings, sculptures and videos in the gallery and outside in the lawns of Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu. Prof Anita Billawaria, Coordinator, Art Gallery presented the magazine and catalogue of the exhibition published by the Gallery to Prof Ishar. Prof Shivji Pannikar from the School of Culture and Creative Expression, Dr B. R. Ambedkar University, New Delhi gave a detailed presentation about the workshop. |
