One yr on, curtains yet to unfold over 'real actors' for floor management | Cross Voting scam in J&K | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 6: Nearly one year on, the cross voting scam that rocked the state politics during Legislative Council polls continues to remain a mystery with only BJP High command claiming to have 'identified' the 'culprits' and according to their own set of parameters in doing so, they have taken whatever action they deemed proper. The ball certainly doesn't stop there , no matter other parties have washed off their hands and maintained an intriguing silence over the whole 'money game' . When the issue rocked the state last year in April, the political parties including those in ruling coalition first chose to maintain 'intriguing' silence for at least few days but when the clamour reached its crescendo in terms of alliance having managed to get the benefit of securing crucial votes from BJP MLAs, they resorted to mudslinging on expected lines against each other. For certainly it was an issue that put the question mark on the 'morality' of almost all the parties which were in fray in the polls. If BJP MLAs had indulged in cross voting, it was apparently on account of some monetary benefit they did so, from the quarters in the government. Unlike the cross voting scam that erupted at the national level last year, ultimately things boiling down to making the then SP stalwart a scapegoat, accusing him of acting as 'intermediary' in the huge money transactions, a charge which landed him ultimately into jail, things in J&K are still folded in the envelope of a 'guarded secret', though it is clear that money must have changed hands for such a crucial voting which conveniently allowed coalition allies to bag a seat in the Upper House. However it is only a guessing game and only rounds of speculations were made at that time as to who paid whom. It is also not clear and no party has managed to get a solid proof over the allegations on money having been transacted. A day after the cross voting episode last year Chief Minister Omar Abdullah washed off hands and challenged to prove coalition involvement , even as his rival PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti retorted that onus lied with him only to prove his innocence. It was only seen then as a vicious circle of castigation rhetoric, in which Congress blamed and condemned Panthers Party for supporting PDP, the former slammed BJP for what it alleged BJP's nefarious mission and agenda against the interests of Jammu. The allegations and counter allegations of political parties against each other added to confusion and in the process it were the coalition partners who emerged not only victorious in terms of gaining one seat, but also major beneficiary in the blame game. Because, for months now there has been complete silence over the fact as who from the coalition contacted first whom, who were the intermediaries in establishing contacts with the MLAs and what amount changed hands. It can also be the possibility that despite having been promised money, the MLAs were not paid the amount or not given what they were committed . Everything remains a secret on who were actors for smooth 'floor management' during the polls.
