Jammu Sports suffers worst defeat in football

JAMMU, Feb 7: One of the top clubs of Jammu, Jammu Sports today suffered worst ever defeat in the hands of Jammu and Kashmir Police-B in the first round of the ongoing 3rd Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College ground, here.
Playing without their top players, who have left the club to join professional departmental teams, Jammu Sports conceded as many as ten goals to suffer a 01-10 defeat in the hands of policemen. Zulfikar opened the account for J&K Police netting the ball twice in 10th and 13th minute. It was followed by a penalty kick awarded in favour of policemen in white which was successfully converted into goal by Rakesh Kumar in the 15th minute.
However, Jammu Sports managed to reduce the margin in the 15th minute\ with Rozer Walter dodging the advancing goal-keeper. But, by then J&K Police had already made it 5-1 in the favour.
Second half of the play too was dominated by the J&K Police, who added five more goals to their tally making it a big 10-01 victory. Besides, Zulfikar, Rohit Kumar (33rd, 55th) and Sachin (45th, 47th) also contributed two goals each. Manzoor Ahmed, Tanvir and Koushal Kumar added one goal each.
Meanwhile, in another match of the day, DFA (District Football Association), Anantnag blanked Young Star 2-0. Both the goals were scored by Aquib Reshi, who struck in 20th and 28th minute of the match. In the meantime, Young Star missed the opportunity to reduce the margin when a penalty kick awarded in their favour was well stopped by DFA Anantnag goal-keeper, Shoaib Hussain.
Today's matches were officiated by penal of referees including Mohd Shafi (centre), Ricky Kumar, Suresh Gupta, Yousaf Don, Rajiv Dev (centre), Ricky Kumar ad Harbans Lal.
