Teachings of Guru ji spread message of universal brother hood, equality: Tara Chand | 635th Guru Ravidass Jayanti celebrations | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 7 : Throwing light on the life and teachings of Guru Ravi Dass ji, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today paid rich tributes to the great Saint describing him as a social reformer who strived for classless, humane and just society. He said through his teachings Guru ji spread the message of universal brotherhood and equality. "Great saints like Guru Ravi Dass have shown us the righteous way of living based on mutual co-existence, love and devotion to the supreme lord," he added. Tara Chand was Chief Guest at the grand function organized to celebrate 635th birth anniversary of Guru ji. The function was organized by Sri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha at Guru Ravi Dass temple, Krishna Nagar. Calling upon society to follow the path shown by the great Saint, the Deputy Chief Minister said that real tribute is to adopt teachings in life and work for establishing an egalitarian society. He said besides preaching a spiritual way of living, Guru Ravi Dass also taught for establishing a class less society in which all human beings are equal before the god and nobody is supreme by birth. Addressing the mammoth gathering of devotees, Tara Chand reiterated the commitment of the government to uplift the socio-economic status of marginalized. He said the government is alive to the problems faced by the underprivileged and all out efforts are being made to address the welfare requirements of the SC and ST communities. Laws formulated in this regard would be implemented in true letter and spirit, so as to give due share to the weaker sections of the society, he added. Listing various social sector schemes launched by the government, Tara Chand said with the active support of central government a number of welfare schemes have been launched in the state, adding that measures launched during the tenure of Jenab Ghulam Nabi Azad are being carried forward by the present government. "The government is committed to work for ameliorating the lot of the marginalized and all our efforts are afoot to take the development revolution to all nooks and corners of the state," he added. Among others MLC B.R. Kundal, leaders, prominent citizens and people from all across the State participated in the celebrations. President of the Sabha Piran Ditta presented memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister. The memorandum listed the demands which inter alia include, revamping of boards and corporations established for welfare of the community in order to address present day requirements of the beneficiaries, setting up an atrocity commission on the lines of the Central SC atrocity commission, protecting the land and property of poor and marginalized etc.
