| R P Sethi breathes his last | | | Jammu | Jan 17 Former chief justice of State High Court and ex-chairman of State Acountability Commission today breathed his last at Chandigarh after a brief illness. Sethi, who was in Jammu few days back had gone to Chandigarh for checkup after he complained of some illness. Sethi, Ram Prakash - born on 7th July, 1937 started practice in Law in 1961. He remained a Special Public Prosecutor in the cases under the Enemy Agents Ordinance and also served as an Additional Advocate General of the Jammu and Kashmir State in 1976. He had been Standing Counsel of the Union of India in the Jammu Wing of the High Court and was appointed Additional Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on May 30, 1986 and permanent Judge on August 5, 1987. He was transferred to Punjab & Haryana High Court on October 18, 1993. He was appointed Chief Justice Karnataka High Court on June 29, 1996. He was appointed as a Judge of Supreme Court of India on January 8,1999. He retired on July 6, 2002. The State Accountability Commission (SAC) was established in the state to check corruption in high places with Sethi as his first chairman. Meanwhile, former minister R S Chib has expressed his condolonces on the demise of Sethi. Also, well-known local peot Arsh Sehbai has expressed grief over the demise and said that Sethi was great appreciator of Urdu poetry. |
