| Waderas, like Gandhis, very anxious to serve the poor | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 7: AICC president Sonia Gandhi, who hardly speaks in the Parliament, has been ruling the country since May 2004. This is what the BJP and other critics of the Congress, including Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy, say. They say that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is there but it is 10 Janpath that actually controls everything. It is also the general perception. At the same, however, a section asserts that it is not just Sonia Gandhi who is ruling the roost and playing all the shots; it is she plus her son Rahul Gandhi who constitute the Congress or the Congress high command whose directions are treated by all the Congressmen as the words of God. Their directions are infallible; these have to followed and given an effect to at whatever cost.
The general perception by and large is that Sonia and Rahul are there to control and run the Congress for years, for decades because India is just not capable of producing such able, inspiring, effective and astute political figures and world class states woman/statesman. This is also the opinion of all those who surround Sonia and Rahul and work as their most obedient "soldiers". Just listen to Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Manish Tiwari, Ambika Soni, Salman Khurshid, Kapil Sibal, Ashwini Kumar, PK Bansal, Harish Rawat, Shakeel Ahmad, Rashid Alvi, Rajiv Shukla, Girija Vyas and many others and draw your own conclusion.
Yesterday in Amethi, Gandhi family pocket borough, it almost became clear that Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka and her son-in-law Robert Wadera are also preparing to take the plunge and join active politics. It was Robert Wadera who actually opened his heart and said that "at present it's Rahul Gandhi's turn to be in politics, but will actively enter the political field if people want me to". (People would always want him to because he is not an ordinary man; he is son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi, a symbol of supreme sacrifice.) He also said that "after Rahul's turn, Priyanka's turn would come". But more than that, he also said that "our entire family is there". He didn't explain what he meant by the entire family. Perhaps he hinted at taking over after the inning of Rahul Gandhi is over. Robert Wadera, a businessman by profession, has joined the campaign trail from the family taking out a motorcycle rally to drum up support for the Congress. Robert today reiterated that he cannot run away from the responsibility as he belongs to a political family. He explained his position while talking to Burkha Dutt of NDTV 24X7, notwithstanding the Priyanka's attempt to divert the media's attention away from what Robert said in Amethi. Priyanka yesterday told media persons that Robert didn't mean what he said saying he is happy with the business he is in and that media had misquoted her husband.
So, India is fortunate that it has not only at its back and call such great leaders as Sonia and Rahul but it is also fortunate because Priyanka and Robert Wadera and their entire family are there to make supreme sacrifices and serve the poor people of India. In other words, two great families are there in India to serve India and its poor people and lead them aright. Don't call it dynastic rule; it's something more than that. Try to understand. |
