| Implementation of PC & PNDT Act reviewed | | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Feb 8: To review the Implementation of J&K Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Sex Determination Test (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act in Udhampur district, the District Development Commissioner, P.K Pole convened a meeting of the members of the District Advisory Committee here today.Joint Director Planning, Rakesh Jamwal, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Anil Amla, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Dr. Chander Prakash, Dy. Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Santosh Sharma, Sr. Most Gynecologist, District Hospital Udhampur, District Social welfare Officer, Project Officer, ICDS, Radiologists, Block Medical Officers, Head of all religions, Social Activists and officers of various departments were present in the meeting. Expressing the concern over the illegal practice of pre-natal sex selection, resulting in the decreasing trend of girl child in the country, the DDC said that legislation alone could not solve the problem. But was the need in change of mindset in a collective consciousness of the general public including the medical community. He called for creating awareness about the gender equality through advocacy and communication efforts. A team comprising of officials and non-official would monitor the functioning of diagnostic and clinical labs functioning in the district, the meeting decieded. It was also decided in the meeting that extensive mass awareness programmes would also be chalked out to sensitize the general masses about the various provisions of the Act. Besides a special seminar would also be organized at the district headquarter to educate the owners of different diagnostic and clinical labs about the various terms of the PNDT- Act.
Later, the DDC also convened a meeting with health, revenue and Block Development Officers of the district to constitute Village Health and Sanitation Committees in district Udhampur. |
