Consensus on completion by April end | Cabinet nod to Local Bodies polls: Governor's address contents discussed threadbare | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 8: In order to ensure that tourist season in the state doesn't get hindered with any activity with which the government and political parties would remain engaged , the state cabinet led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today decided that elections for the Local Bodies including those of Municipal Corporations would be conducted at the earliest so that the entire exercise is completed by April end. The issue which came up for discussion during the cabinet meeting this evening saw consensus between both the coalition partners NC and Congress on completion of poll process across the state before Durbar shifts to Valley for next six months. In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, even though as many as five cabinet ministers were absent, sources said the issue came as one of the key matters that were discussed threadbare. The ministers of both the alliance partners discussed various aspects related the Municipal polls, about which the coalition government has already made up its mind to conduct at the earliest. The ministers were of the opinion that since the tourist season starts in the state by May, the Municipal polls should not be allowed to be extended beyond April, sources said adding that it was desired that in order to facilitate smooth conduct of the polls without any hurdle as also allow the tourist season begin on a smooth and peaceful note without any political issue coming in way of inflow of tourists , this setp is being deemed as necessary. In view of the consensus almost having been built on this, the Election Commission would be asked to start the process with issuance of necessary notifications. The cabinet members also discussed threadbare the Address of the Governor NN Vohra which he is scheduled to read while addressing joint session of Legislature on the first day of commencement of Budget session beginning on February 23.Sources said after going through every detail of the achievements of coalition government listed in the Address, the cabinet is believed to have unanimously approved the contents of the Address. As a part of the routine agenda, the cabinet also approved upgradation of pay scales of Principal Government Medical College Srinagar and Principal Government Medical college Jammu from the existing PB-4 (37400-67000+ G.P Rs. 10,000) to PB-4(37400-67000+G.P Rs. 12,000) from 01-07-2009. The Cabinet also approved enhancement of Salary of Councilors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh-Kargil from Rs. 10,000 to 30,000 per month prospectively. The Cabinet also approved conduct of Elections to the Municipal Corporations/Municipal Councils/Committees.
