Involved in "theft" of timber, senior IPS officer publicly proclaims his honesty | | | Bharat Bhushan JAMMU, Feb 8: Liars often use phrases emphasising the validity of their statements, like "I swear by God", "to tell the truth" and "to be perfectly honest". The truthful people, however, do not need to go that far. A senior IPS officer often uses these phrases while boasting of his "marvellous" achievements. During his tenure as DIG in Srinagar, he was known for lying to his field officers whenever it came the turn of going to encounter sites. He would give instructions to then SP operations and other juniors from his cozy bedroom while pretending to be at the encounter site. When cops exchanged bullets with militants, he enjoyed TV programmes, a senior police officer said. He was later posted as DIG . Khan worked under him as SSP, Doda. The officer said the DIG was constructing his house in Punjab, while he headed the Doda-Udhampur range from where the timber originated. As he needed it, he got a truckload of A-class scants from someone in the erstwhile Doda district, he added. However, when the truck was on its way to Punjab, it was seized on the orders of the SSP at Batote because it did not have any official permission to carry the timber scants outside J&K, or to any place within the state. Though the officer had tried his best to get the truck released, the SSP was alleged to having refused to oblige him. An FIR in this regard was later registered at the Batote police station. The officer said most of the timber used in the construction of the senior cop's house had been smuggled from J&K. There were also some other non-local IPS officers who had used J&K timber in their houses. It was provided them free of cost, he alleged. Not only this, a select group of contractors had even constructed, or renovated the houses of some of these officers. In turn, these contractors were engaged by them for the supply of various costlier items to police department, the officer alleged. He emphasised the need for a CBI probe against these officers. |
