Floral, musical tributes to Father of Nation

JAMMU, Feb 8: Nearly 350 students and teachers with Professor N.K. Tripathi, Dean, Students Welfare as chief guest remembered Mahatma Gandhi and paid floral and musical tributes to the Father of the Nation at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium of University of Jammu, today. Professor Hemla Aggarwal, Principal, Government Degree College, Paloura, Dr Seema Rohmetra, Director, Jammu Chapter of Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi and Director, Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Jammu together organised this programme in collaboration. An enthralling musical bonanza as a one-and-a-half hour long concert was presented by the daughter of the soil of Jammu, Ms Mukteshi Sharma. She sung seven classical vocal music performances in the form of Ram Dhun, Vaishnav Jan Tote Ne Kahiye, Kabir Das and Bhulle Shah Bhajans and Sufi Kalaams. The audience were in pleasant ruptures with musical rhythm and utmost sense of enchanting music presented by Mukteshi Sharma, classical vocal singer; Flutist Rakesh Anand and Rhythmist Darbari Lal. Ashutosh Mag-otra was at the harmonium. The audience remained spellbound throughout the performance of theses renowned artists of Jammu region. Kul-bhushan contributed to the technical sound control and sound system. The musical concert began with Bharat Bhushan Anand anchoring on the podioum. Kumari Mukteshi was presented a shawl and a certificate of excellence by DSW Professor N.K. Tripathi, Dr Hemla Aggarwal, Dr Seema Rohmetra, Dr Jugal Kishore Sharma and Professor Anurag Gangal. Certificates of excellence were awarded to Banday Zain-ul-Abdeen and Kiran Kumar Sharma for their accomplishments on national and international levels as students of Department of Political Science and volunteers of Gandhian Centre, University of Jammu. The DSW spoke on the occasion stating on the importance of remembering Mahatma Gandhi and his philosophy of truth and nonviolence more often than merely on his birth and death anniversaries. Professor Anurag Gangal also expressed similar views on the occasion. Others present included Professor Y. R. Sharma, Professor Shailender Singh Jamwal, Dr Varinder Kundal, Shri Vijay Attri and hundreds of students and research scholars community.
