Rs one Cr for JU Urdu Deptt Auditorium announced | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 8: Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik today asked the senior academicians of highest seats of learning to draft policies keenly for the promotion of various languages of the state. The Minister was addressing a literary function at Department of Urdu, Jammu University organised to release a book Hali, Shubli aur Azad Tehkeek kay Aayenay Mein' authored by Dr. Chaman Lal, Ex. MLA Ramban and Assistant Professor in Urdu Department. Stressing for preservation of various languages, the Minister asked Jammu University authorities to take steps for promotion of Urdu language by popularising its use in day to day life of masses. Welcoming new Vice-Chancellor Prof. M.P.Singh Ishar, Mr. Malik hoped that Jammu University would touch new heights under his able guidance in providing quality education to the students. He also underscored the need for extending adequate facilities to research scholars. Congratulating Dr. Chaman Lal for authoring the book released today, the Minister said that the work will enlighten the students and enthusiastic readers with a lot of knowledge about Urdu literature. In response to long pending demand of the staff, the Minister announced Rs one crore for construction of JU Urdu department Auditorium. Malik appreciated Prof. Shuhab Inayat Malik HoD, Urdu department for organising a chain of literary events to provide budding writers, intellectuals and scholars a platform for their encouragement. Earlier, Prof. Shuhab expressed his gratitude to the Minister for sparing time from his busy schedule to attend the function. Vice Chancellor Jammu University, Prof. M.P.Singh Ishar, while addressing the function, expressed pleasure for being part of the literary event where speakers threw light on various aspects of Urdu- a language known for its lucidity and sweetness. He also expressed his gratitude to the Minister for announcing funds for the Urdu Department Auditorium. He also called for making provision for additional hostel facility for the students of the University. Expressing his concern over the little attention being paid towards Urdu language at national level, Prof. Ishar lauded the role of JU Urdu Department and its HoD Prof. Shuhab in promotion of the language in the State. Eminent Journalist Ved Bhasin also spoke on the function. Prominent among others present on the occasion included, Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Director Distance Education, Dr. D.L. Chowdhry, Prof. Qadus Javed, Dr. Kulwant, Dr. O.P. Drivedi, Mr. Raj Kumar, Additional Commissioner Jammu, Administrators, HOD's, Scholars and students of Jammu University.
